Using Game Engines and VR to create Concerts, Digital Experiences and Theatre

26th
Mar
15:30 to 16:30
By: Rose Bruford College of Theatre & Performance

This event is for people who would like to learn more about two new Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance degree programmes which focus on new digital tools and new mediums in live performance, such as virtual reality and immersive experiences. They will support students to develop the latest technical and visual storytelling skills for a career in Films, Theatre, Gaming or Festivals. Immersive virtual experiences are increasingly used to enhance our relationship with big brands and deliver the ‘wow’ factor, and theatre, gaming and films are rapidly expanding their use of this developing field.

James Simpson and Enrique Munoz-Jimenez will be talking about both programmes and the careers for which we are training our students. There will be an opportunity to ask questions.

Our Virtual Theatre and Digital Experiences BA (Hons) programme trains students to become creative technologists, they design and create the next generation of digital theatre and experiences. It is a great time to get involved at the cutting edge of virtual reality, and employers are increasingly looking for candidates with an understanding of how people interact with digital assets, who have the relevant design and technical skills.

Virtual Theatre and Digital Experiences students will devise and create sophisticated immersive experiences using digital platforms including Virtual Reality, Mixed Reality, motion capture technology and game engines platforms.

The students will become theatre makers and storytellers but at the same time have a great understanding of digital technology with a range of specialist skills, able to support a live theatre experience by integrating the technology and engineering with digital systems.

The Digital Content Design for Theatre and Live Events BA (Hons) programme focuses on designing digital content for the theatre and live events industries. Almost all live and online events feature digital content in some way, films and TV use digital content designers to create visual impact during filming and in post-production. Immersive experiences using VR and video content are developing rapidly, and creative experts who understand how to use the technology to articulate an artistic vision are in high demand.

This course focuses on channelling each student’s creativity into storytelling using their own unique style and visual language. They will learn how to use a wide range of cutting-edge equipment to bring visions to life, through a series of collaborative project briefs.

Trained by industry professionals, with experience working on world renowned projects like Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and at the Royal Opera House, students will learn the digital content design workflow from concept to delivery.

The first year will give them the core skills to bring ideas to life like design principles and fundamental 2D/3D design software skills and motion capture. Then students will start to develop the skills needed to use media servers, cameras, projectors, control desks, motion capture and virtual reality equipment and green screen technologies.
